Designed in collaboration with Will Wilde a musician who has taken the harmonica way beyond its blues roots since he first emerged on the music scene in 2010. Always pushing forward, evolving and redefining his sound, Wilde’s hard-edged harmonica steals the spotlight from the traditional rock guitar, with a sound that owes as much to Slash or Gary Moore as it does to Sonny Boy Williamson or Little Walter.

The Wilde Drive requires an 18vdc source sold separately.

The Wilde Drive is designed to bring an edgier sound to harmonica, mixing vintage and current design techniques and components. The pedal takes an aggressive solid state overdriven signal and slams a subminiature pentode tube, resulting in a hard distortion saturated with harmonics that works great for the harmonica. We then add in a touch of hall echo effect to fatten the tone just a bit, which is switchable.

Please be aware that the subminiature tube, like all tubes, can be microphonic and make a ringing noise when the bypass buttons are hit, any noise should be of low volume and subside quickly. Because this pedal is intended to be an "always on" pedal, this issue is not a factor when performing.

The Wilde Drive requires an 18vdc power adapter. The DC adapter requirements are a regulated 18vdc with a minimum 200mA output and a 2.1mm x 5.5mm connector with a negative center. Current draw is 147ma. Power adapter is sold separately.

Lone Wolfe Wilde Experience

I have purchased almost every Lone Wolfe pedal over the years and even a Train 40 amp (that I use all of the time). I'm not overly particular in that I've only returned two items mainly because they just didn't suit my playing style. Unfortunately the Wlide drive was one of those returns. It did everything that the marketing data said it would do but for me it sounded to compressed. That may be because I use a strong vintage bullet element so right off the bat there's going to be some compression. I think many players will like it. It just wasn't the effect I anticipated. It's different, so it is worth a try for sure.

Nice Complement for the Harp Break

I absolution love this pedal!!!! Before I bought it, I asked Randy to compare it to Lone Wolf's Harp Break pedal, which I've had for years and use all the time. He described the Wilde Drive distortion as being more complex, with a slightly harsher compression (crunch) and having the richness of the harmonics from an overdriven tube. I'd have to say that's a really good description, and it complements the type of distortion of the Harp Break. I have both pedals on my pedalboard now!
