Hello from Chicago

Postby ChicagoRay » Tue Jan 13, 2009 9:54 pm

Hello,
I just wanted to say hi!
I am from Chicago. I studied Blues Harp with Joe Filisko for about 3 years. I still have allot to learn. I recently found this wonderful site. I hope to get the HARP TONE+ and the HARP DELAY.
I am looking forward to checking out these wonderful products.

Glad to have you, come on in and sit a spell.

The monster that is feedback lies in your preamp, it is fed by gain and is awakened by coupling between your mic and speaker.

Hello Ray.
this is a great site will an amazing amount of harp information.
Having just bought both the harp Delay and the Harp Tone+ I can highly recommend both of them. The Delay is the best available for tone and settings.
What amps do you use?

Hello PortlandPaul,
I went ahead an bought both the Harp Delay and the Harp Tone+.
I cannot wait to hear them.

This is my current setup.

1) A modified Fender Hot Rod Deluxe Limited Edition amp with tubes from Jay at Eurotubes (Matched pair of JJ 6L6GC's, and for the front end I am using one ECC83S for V2 and one ECC81 for V1 and one JJ ECC832 for the phase inverter).

I am also using a Weber Mass attenuator.

Thanks guys,
Its amazing what you can buy when you don’t have kids!
My girlfriend thinks I am nuts!
Another question, since the Fender Hot Rod Deluxe is going through an attenuator will the HARP TONE+ attenuate it even more?
Should I even use the HARP TONE+ with the Hot Rod Deluxe or just with the Tweed Pro Junior and Blues junior?

Here is a better shot of the Hot Rod Deluxe. I just bought a new digital camera and went crazy taking photos.
If I am sending too many photos let me know.

Welcome C-Ray . . . I know what you mean, I got a digital camera a month ago but haven't even been able to get around to amps or figure out the upload drill here . . . could you explain the baby Meteor and part-tweed old amps in the pictures?

You know, Bob at Eurotubes is a great guy, but I am not partial to JJ ECC81s. Any place you like to use a JJ or EH or GT 12AT7, try any vintage 12AT7 there instead, like the 6679s that are military variants, or especially a Mullard. It is not Bob's fault, but the new ATs I have had run differently from vintage ones, in a way that is not as good for harp, plate voltage runs significantly higher. Tell me I'm wrong if the vintage one doesn't work at least a little better, I don't mind independent debunking 8) .

That is a gorgeous selection of amps there: Like Stephen I'm intrigued by the small "meteor" and the other grey tolex/tweed amp.

This is what I know about the two amps.
I was told that they are all original.
I want to replace the 2 prong electrical cords with a 3 prong cord.
Should I change anything other than the cords?
Or should I leave them stock?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Ray

The Silvertone 1430 is one of those amps that has no main power transformer- the main tube is driven by rectified line voltage, there is a small PT for the 12AU6, and an OPT. These can't easily be modified for a 3 prong cord if my memory serves me correctly, but using an isolation transformer makes them a lot safer.
What tube line up is in the Tempo? Looks like a 12AX7 and 6BQ5 or 6AQ5...

Hello T-Bone Bruce,
I could not see and numbers or letters on the tubes just RCA Electron.
All I really saw was that one tube that said 12 AU6.
I will need to pull them out in order to check more carefully.

Does anyone have an answer to my question about the Hot Rod Deluxe and the attenuator with the HARP TONE+?

Maybe these close up shots will help?

Thanks Ray!
In answer to your question about the Tone+ and the MASS attenuator: I haven't had any experience with the MASS attenuator, but I have used a 50 watt L-Pad to attenuate my amps output for practice at home. I haven't used the Tone+ in conjunction with an attenuated amp, but your question has made me think about doing that. I will give it a try this weekend.
